Subject: [KFFDisc] The Unforgiven (vidclip) Date: Thu, 1 Oct 1998 15:43:08 -0400 From: "Hiko Seijuro" Reply-To: kenshinfanfics@egroups.com To: I was just at Wendy's listening to the radio in the car, and all of a sudden, this classic song comes on. I don't know what made me think of Kenshin that moment, but it did. It's not a happy vidclip though, so beware... The Unforgiven A Rurouni Kenshin Music Video by: Hiko Seijuro (cronusz@bellsouth.net) Original Song by : Metallica (c) 1991 (Music begins, slow strumming of guitar. As it does, the view moves from place to place in the city at night. And it eventually comes to an abandoned area, a sign above reading: "Rakuninmura." The view moves through the area as the drums begin, showing various people in various states of poverty, and then they slowly close in on a man huddled alone in a corner, clutching a sword chained up at the hilt and saya...His eyes are empty, and his eyes slowly close.) New blood joins this Earth (Young Shinta with his parents, smiling as runs out to play) And quickly he's subdued (Shinta sees his parents bedridden, feverish from disease) Through constant pained disgrace (Shinta's hand clench in anger, tears roll down his face) The young boy learns their rules (He stands up, trying to wipe his face with his hands and arms) With time the child draws in (We see Shinta taken by slave traders, and is marching with the others) This whipping boy done wrong (Shinta trips and falls, one of the traders whips him several times) Deprived of all his thoughts (A close up of his eyes reveals a near-empty looking soul...) The young man struggles on and on he's known (Yet he gets up, and continues to move on, despite the pain in his small body...) A vow unto his own (He stands before the graves of the traders and the three girls who wanted to protect him, as Hiko walks towards him, pouring sake on the headstones...) That never from this day (Hiko smiles, offering his hand to him...) His will they'll take away (And the newly named Kenshin follows him home...) (The flashbacks end, and Kenshin slowly opens his eyes, still devoid of any emotion...) X What I've felt (Images of Hiko, his training flash before him) What I've known (Hiko smiles as he watches Kenshin botch up another lesson...) Never shined through in what I've shown (Kenshin is shown arguing, and leaving Hiko...) Never be (Images of Hiko fading beside the waterfall where they argued...) Never see (The scenery vanishes, Kenshin now stands by Hiko's kiln, as he sips sake slowly, seemingly unaware of Kenshin's presence.) Won't see what might have been (The scenery fades again to darkness...) What I've felt (Images of a snow-covered hut in the country...) What I've known (Kenshin sees Tomoe smile for the first time) Never shined through in what I've shown (Kenshin is crying as Tomoe smiles, and dies in his arms...) Never free (His eyes slowly wander to his sword, and he clutches it tightly.) Never me (His head lowers, as if in shame...) So I dub thee unforgiven (And his eyes close again...) They dedicate their lives (Katsura's profile moves past a picture of an intense Battousai) To running all of his (Katsura giving Battousai a note, he nods and is off, while Katsura watches with a tinge of sadness) He tries to please them all (Kenshin is shown killing many people in horrible ways...) This bitter man he is (Scene fades to Kenshin in the washroom, a grim look on his face as he attempts to wash the blood from his hands...) Throughout his life the same (Kenshin is shown fighting at Toba Fushimi...) He's battled constantly (He finishes off more opponents...the blood spattering in his face...) This fight he cannot win (The face covered in blood changes from Kenshin, to Tomoe, covered in blood, just like when they first met...and finally to Enishi, cackling...) A tired man they see no longer cares (Kenshin leans further back into the wall in which he's laying on...as Sanosuke, Megumi, and Tsubame watch in horror...) The old man then prepares To die regretfully That old man here is me (We see blood slowly but surely oozing into his kimono and hakama, as a result of the battle with Enishi...) What I've felt (Images of Kaoru flash past him, their first meeting) What I've known (Kaoru sinks to the floor, crying after he said Goodbye...) Never shined through in what I've shown (Kenshin thinks of Kaoru as he tries to defeat Shishio in the final battle, and stands up) Never be (Kenshin holds his hand out to her, she blushes and slowly takes it) Never see (Her face smiling, her hands behind her back) Won't see what might have been (The two walking together on the bridge, smiling, laughing...) What I've felt (Kaoru telling him how she didn't care about his past...) What I've known (Kaoru is pounding the crap out of him with her bokutou) Never shined through in what I've shown (Kaoru praying silently, while Kenshin and Enishi fight) Never free (His eyes widen in shock...) Never me (He falls to the floor, crying...) So I dub thee unforgiven (...as he sees Kaoru's body against the wall, impaled on Enishi's Watou, a cross-scar on her left cheek bleeding. (Kenshin begins to look into his own heart, in hopes of finding an answer. Many scenes from his life emerge, such as his childhood, Tomoe, Hiko, and finally Kaoru with Enishi in the shadows behind her) What I've felt (Saitou and Kenshin square off in the Bakumatsu, as Okita watches) What I've known (The scene forms into a clearing with skulls and bones, with Kenshin in the center of it all, walking slowly) Never shined through in what I've shown (Kenshin looks over his shoulder, his first scar still fresh, and whispers to Kiyosato to be happy in his next life) Never be (He walks away, touching his scar sadly) Never see (A panning view of Kiyosato and his dead body, his eyes still wide in horror) Won't see what might have been (Kenshin shrugs the vision from his mind, and continues on) What I've felt (Kenshin is charging at the Yaminobu in Kekkai Forest, screaming) What I've known (He blindly charges Banjin's master...) Never shined through in what I've shown (and instead cleaves both the old man and Tomoe...) Never free (Enishi gloating over his victory, as Kenshin gags up blood) Never me (Images of Enishi laughing, as the funeral procession for Kaoru is taking place) So I dub thee unforgiven, whoa whoa... (as Kenshin is walking, his head stooped in shame and pain) Never free (Back in Rakuninmura, Kenshin finally stands up, Oibore looks up and sighs at him) Never me (He begins to walk forward, almost aimlessly) So I dub thee unforgiven (Enishi points a finger at him, grinning maniacally) You labeled me (Enishi is cursing him for stealing his sister...) I'll label you (...and he smiles, readying his sword.) So I dub thee unforgiven (Kenshin's eyes close at the memory) Never free (A long shot away from Kenshin, as scenes of the other Jinchuu fighters crop up, each one wanting a piece of Kenshin) Never me (Kenshin shakes his head) So I dub thee unforgiven (and then he remembers the body of Kaoru, lifeless eyes) You labeled me (Enishi stands over Kenshin's sobbing form in the dojo, pointing at Kaoru) I'll label you (Enishi fades into the darkness..) So I dub thee unforgiven... (And Kenshin also vanishes into the dark streets) ~~Owari. This is my first one, BTW. Oh, and if you haven't heard this song, you should do yourself a favor and go buy Metallica's Black Album. It's probably the last decent album I've ever owned that's domestic....and it's truly their best work.
