I'm old enough already! Why do I always have to go with someone?" I pleaded with Jiya. "No. Either you go with someone, or you don't go at all. Why don't you just go with Aoshi? I will feel more assured if you do." Hearing Jiya say 'Aoshi', my eyes lit up immediately. I tried to cover my excitement "Okay! I'll go with him. But I won't like it!" I had obviously just told a lie. Even Jiya knew that I had a crush on Aoshi for a long time. I skipped away happily. I skipped of to Aoshi's room to tell him that Jiya wanted him to go to the marketplace with me. When I reached the door of the room, I opened it silently and peeped in. he was meditating again. Why does he do that all the time? "Yes Misao?" came a voice suddenly. It was Aoshi. He had most probably heard me skipping down the corridor to his room and opening the door. "What is it?" "Um. Jiya wants you to go to the marketplace with me, so could you.?" I looked at him. He stood up and walked towards the wardrobe. He looked at me and I understood immediately. I closed the door and ran back to my room to change. The marketplace was full of people. Both buying and selling. We walked past many different stores. After buying what I wanted, we started to head back home. As we were walking back, something in an accessory store caught my eye. It was a gold hairpin, beautifully carved into the shape of two Sakura flowers. In the middle of each of the Sakura flowers, was a diamond. I couldn't take my eyes off it. I picked it up to take a closer look at it. It was even more beautiful up close. Aoshi kept urging me to go home as it was getting dark. After much persuasion, I gave in and we walked home together. --------------------- || --------------------- We went to the marketplace. The street was bustling with activity. After Misao bought what she wanted, we started to head home. When we passed an accessory store, she stopped and stared staring at something. She picked up a gold hairpin in the shape of two Sakura flowers. I could tell that she liked it a lot. Her usual tomboyish ways seemed to have disappeared and the feminine side of her showed very clearly. She had a smile on her face that made her look very pretty. As I was staring at her, I wanted to smile too. After a while, I started urging her to get home as it was getting dark. After much persuasion, she finally gave in and we walked back together. During dinner, Jiya told me to see him privately after dinner as he said that he had something to tell me. I started to worry. He had a weird expression on his face and I knew that it was going to be something bad. I followed him to his room after dinner. When we reached his room, he told him to sit down. I braced myself for what he was going to say next. "Misao, I know you are getting older and it's time you carry on and take over this aoiya from me. You have also reached an appropriate age to get married, so I've." I jumped when I heard the word 'married'. I was very shocked to hear Jiya say that. "I don't ant to get married! Not yet!" "I don't care what you say, you've been going on with this 'Aoshi' thing a bit too long. I've already arranged with you to meet someone." I was about to open my mouth to speak. "No buts, young lady. You are to listen to what I say" Tears were filling up my eyes. I got up and ran out of the room. I ran past him in the corridor. I didn't want to look at him, I couldn't. I ran to my room and shut the door. I buried my face in my futon and started to cry. "I don't want to get married! Not yet!" I didn't want to think about it anymore. There was a knock on my door. I sat up quickly and rubbed the tears out of my eyes. The door opened. What is he doing here? I don't want to see him right now! "What's wrong Misao? Why are you crying?" Please don't ask me! You're not the person I want to see right now! He started walking towards me. The tears came back into my eyes. I looked down and let the tears fall. I did not want him to see me cry. Not now. He kneeled down beside me and took m hand. "Tell me what's wrong. I'll try to help!" "How are you going to help me? How? Jiya is arranging my marriage for me. What can you do?" I shouted. "You can't help me, you can't." my voice trailed off. I pulled my hand away from his grasp. I watched him walk out of the room. I started to cry again when he closed the door. ------------------ || ------------------- I was walking back to my room after dinner when I saw her running past me crying. There was that pain in my heart again. I didn't like it. I walked to her room, knocked on her door, and went in. I saw her sitting on her futon crying. I could tell that she had just cried as she was shivering slightly. "What's wrong Misao? Why are you crying?" she didn't answer me. I knew there was something wrong. I walked towards her and kneeled down beside her. I took her hand. "Tell me what's wrong. I'll try to help!" I was trying to comfort her. "How are you going to help me? How? Jiya is arranging my marriage for me. What can you do?" When I heard this, there was that pain in my heart again. "You can't help me, you can't." her voice trailed off. She pulled her hand from mine. I couldn't bear staying in the same room as her anymore. I got up and walked out. When I was outside the room, I could hear her crying again. Why is my heart always aching when I see or hear her cry? I want this to stop, but I can't make it stop. I don't know why, but I don't want her to get married to someone else either. --------------------------- ONElist Sponsor ---------------------------- GET WHAT YOU DESERVE!
