Obachan and Mikomi are and that's it. Megumi's eyes fluttered open and the first thing she saw were a pair of concerned violet eyes. "Megumi-Dono you are awake, wonderful let me get Dr. Genzai. You have been unconscious most of the day, it is almost night." Kenshin said. "Where is Sano?" Megumi asked feeling light headed. Kenshin thought for a moment, he wondered if he should tell her then decided against it. She would find out soon enough. "Sano said he would be here soon." Kenshin said with a tender smile. Megumi smiled back, her insides breaking. Sano was too busy with that other woman to even be concerned as to how she was. Was that all she was to him a good time? She curled into a tightly little ball a clenched her eyes shut. She was trying so hard not to cry. How could she be so weak? Not just in her health with this stupid sickness… Oh no… She tried to remember back to the last time she had gotten her cycle. The week before she and Sano had, for the first time… That had been three months ago and she was suppose to be on her cycle now… She wasn't sick she was pregnant. The tears finally came, in full bursts. She cried hard and tried to keep it quiet. Kaoru came into give her some tea. "Megumi-San what's wrong?" She asked her voice full of concern. Megumi knew she had to tell someone, but she wasn't sure who, so she figured Kaoru was as good as anyone. "Kaoru, I… I am pregnant." The words tumbled almost easily out of her mouth. Kaoru dropped her tray of tea. Kaoru ran to Megumi's side and wrapped her arms around the woman who had of late become a wonderful friend to her. "Oh Megumi-San, everything will be ok. As soon we tell Sano…" "No we can't tell him!" Megumi cried angrily. Kaoru looked surprised and asked. "Why?" "Aren't you curious why he isn't here? He is with that Obachan. He should have been here. If he does decide to show up, don't tell him where I am going." Megumi said angrily. Kaoru hadn't known Megumi had known where Sano was. She watched Megumi get up and shakily leave the room. Megumi walked quickly down the hall and past a surprised Dr. Genzai and Kenshin, who tried to stop her. But she shrugged his hand away. She picked up her walk and turned it into a run. She didn't stop till she got to her home. She ran into her bedroom and looked at her sleeping mat. Her tears came harder now. She couldn't sleep there. She went to the loose floorboard in her bedroom and pulled out the large bag of money, and quickly counted the money. She had been saving for several years now. She had come to the dojo originally with a slightly smaller sum, but over time she had amassed a small fortune. She would have more than enough money to live far, far away. She had always wanted to see Europe. And with her new baby, she would see all of Europe, she and her baby. She would make up a story about how the baby's father had died. She was tired so she decided to sleep and then fine tune her plan in the morning. Sano ran to the clinic, he had heard from a messenger that Megumi had gotten sick. The messenger had said it was earlier that day in the morning actually. Sano demanded to be told why he wasn't told sooner and the messenger said. "I wasn't paid so I figured it wasn't important." What Sano hadn't known that the messenger had been paid by Obachan to delay any messages about Megumi. Sano came panting to the clinic in time to see Kaoru coming out. She looked very weary and her hair was falling out of its ponytail. "Kaoru, how is Megumi?" Sano asked his voice worried. Kaoru looked at Sano her eyes cold. Megumi had woken up at least three hours ago and had fainted well over that time ago. And this heartless man hadn't cared, he had been with a mere trollop, while the mother of his child had been so sick as to pass out. "She will be ok, she is deeply hurt." Kaoru said walking towards the dojo. "What happened?" Sano asked. "She passed out this morning." Kaoru said not really wanting to talk to him. "Where is she?" "She didn't say where she was going." Kaoru said. "What?" Kaoru spun on her heel to face him her eyes angry. "Look you have screwed up with her before, and she has forgiven you. But this time Sagara Sanosuke, you probably lost the best thing that ever happened to you, because as far as Megumi is concerned you are gone to her. All for some little whore." Kaoru turned back around and stormed up to the dojo. Sano was shocked to hear that word from Kaoru's mouth. "Gone…" The word slipped past his lips. He loved her so much and because of some mistake in his past. He had done some horrible things in his life, that he had been afraid would ruin his chances with his one true love, but that certainly hadn't been the one he thought he would lose her over. He knew he wouldn't be able to speak to Kaoru, and decided it best if he went and looked for Megumi himself. He went in the direction of her house and as he was about to enter he heard a voice say. "Hi Sanosuke-San." Sano turned around to see a little girl in the moonlight. She looked about six or seven. "Hello, who are you?" The little girl giggled and said. "My name is Mikomi." "That's nice Mikomi, but I have someone I need to see." He said turning around. "I wouldn't go in there." The little girl said. "Why not?" Sano asked getting irritated at the girl's impertenance. The little girl sighed sadly and said. "Because Megumi-San is very mad at you." "I know that and I am trying to fix it." Sano said, and for the first time he really looked at the girl. Her dark black hair and that smile were so familiar. "I wouldn't go in there, when my mo… Megumi is mad you should just let her be, things will work out." The little girl said. "Trust me, I think I know Megumi a little better than you do." Sano said walking up the steps. "Please Sano-San trust me. I know what is best in this case." Mikomi said her little girl's voice sounding very adult. "Why do you care?" Sano asked. "Because I hate it when my mommy and daddy are mad at each other." The little girl said. "So, what does Megumi being mad at me have to do with your mom and dad?" Sano asked. The little girl shrugged. "Please trust me Sano-San you'll be better off if you leave now. Megumi doesn't want to be disturbed." Mikomi said. Her voice sounded mildly threatening. Sano looked hard at this little girl and for some reason she looked so familiar. The shape of her mouth, the defiant gleam in her eyes. "Well I better go home now, daddy will be mad for making him worry." Mikomi said running towards the woods. For some reason the man who took orders from no one decided maybe he should listen to the little girl. He turned and walked down the path towards town. Megumi awoke from a restless sleep, she had cried out several times last night for him, but then as she awoke she remembered, he wasn't there. She shivered, this morning seemed colder than the others did. She washed her face quickly in the basin and got her satchel of money. She counted it again to make sure it was all there. It was. She slipped it into several smaller bags so it wasn't all in on place. She had a small bag that she put her clothes in and hurried up to the dojo. She knew Sano wouldn't be up this early, especially if he had spent the night with… She willed herself not to think about that. She was going to start a new life in a whole new world. Megumi saw the person she was looking for in the courtyard. She approached Kaoru quietly. "Hello Megumi," Kaoru said her eyes friendly and her voice calm. "Hello Kaoru, it is good I ran into you there is something I need to speak with you about." Megumi said taking a deep breath. "Please don't interrupt me till I am finished this is going to be very hard. I am leaving." Kaoru gasped sharply but Megumi continued. "Sano made it very clear to me yesterday when I passed out he didn't want anything to do with me and since I am with child, I don't want to bring shame upon your dojo. So I have saved some money and I plan on leaving on the first boat to Europe, London I think will be nice." Megumi said. "London?" Kaoru had never heard of such a place. "I would like greatly to keep in touch with you and Kenshin, but please do not let Sano know where I have gone." Kaoru was too shocked to even stop Megumi as she turned and left. She just watched Megumi leave. She shook her head sadly, she wondered if Sano had talked to her last night. He must have, or else Megumi wouldn't be leaving. Megumi walked to the docks and it was her luck that a boat was departing that afternoon for London. Megumi smiled knowing the fates must be with her. She felt a small regret for not even having left a note for him. She talked to the captain about her ticket and it was much less than she had thought. The captain showed her to her new home for the next, if weather was good the captain had said, 3 months. The cabin was small but not cramped, she had a writing desk and an actual bed and a mirror in a dresser. She would arrive in London during her sixth month and that would leave her only a short time to find a good doctor to help her give birth. Luckily she had a friend who said if she ever made it to the other side of the globe he would be happy to see her. He was also the one who had taught her English. She knew she had enough time to quickly get off the ship and buy two new kimonos to accommodate her soon to be very swollen stomach. She purchased them and hurried back just as the ship blew the whistle to announce its preparation for departure. Megumi sighed as they moved out of the harbor, she silently said good-bye to her old life, her old friends and her old love. A stranger standing next to the black haired woman in a purple kimono noticed silent tears running down the pretty woman's faced. He wondered where she was running to or what she was running from. Sano hurried to the dojo in the early afternoon after going to the clinic and Megumi's house and finding her at neither. He practically ran over to Kaoru and asked. "Where is Megumi?" Kaoru looked up at him disinterestedly and said simply. "She left." "Where did she go?" He asked very worried. "I am not sure. She was pretty upset." Kaoru said sweeping the porch. "Did she say when she'd be back?" Sano hoped it would be this evening, he was finally going to ask her to be his wife. "Nope." Kaoru said not looking at him. "But I don't think she is coming back." Sano blanched at this. Megumi gone forever? She couldn't be they were meant to be together. "Why did she leave?" Kaoru for the first time this afternoon looked up and met Sano in the eyes. "Because you didn't love her." "But I do." "Did you show her?" "Yes…" "Oh I see while she could have seriously ill you were too busy entertaining a little trollop." Kaoru said walking into her dojo. "What…" Sano asked confused. "Your little Obachan. Now please leave." Kaoru requested. Sano for the first time in a long time felt totally and completely lost.
