Prepare For Battle Sanosuke punched a wooden post. Nearly busting it in half. "Fuck!! Back to square one!" Kaoru was rubbing her head, her hands shaking wildly. They were so close. "Now what!? What are we suppose to do if we're all the way back in central Tokyo!!" Yahiko was nearly as bad as Sanosuke, punching the walls. Megumi had a faint expression on her face as if she had eaten a fat bug. Tae looked at them, hand around Tsubame's shoulder. Miserable. If there was one word that could explain what they looked like that would be the word. Absolutely miserable. Kaoru got up shakily on her knees and looked up at the sky. Kami-sama, tell me what to do! Silence. That only made things worse. And then Kaoru blew it. "FUCKING SHIT!!!!!!!!" They all looked at her shocked as she pounded the blades of grass. Her fist bleeding from sharp rocks that jutted in to her skin. "NOOOO!! WE WERE SO DANM CLOSE!!" "Ochisikei Jo-chan!! Your bleeding!" Kaoru tried to push him away but Sanosuke held her firmly. "LET ME GO!! LET ME GO.." "WHAT DO YOU THINK KENSHIN WOULD SAY IF HE SAW YOU LIKE THIS!!" Kaoru stopped screaming and sat there, eyes wide as a baseball. "Look at you!? Look at what you've become??" Sanosuke's eyes were flashing with anger. "Do you think he'd want to come back to somebody like you!!??" Smack The words was like an icy slap across the head. "Sanosuke! Don't be too hard on her!" Sanosuke turned to glare at Megumi, his eyes on fire. "Listen to me fox-lady!! This is hurting me as much as it's hurting her!! But she can't go on like this!" Sanosuke looked back at Kaoru, watching her eyes staring into space as her body quivered on the grass. Tae held Tsubame closer, Yahiko looked away. Sanosuke sucked in a fiery breath. "You can stay here while we go rescue Kenshin. And I know that he'll be glad to see us." He turned and motioned to Yahiko and Megumi. "Let's go." Sanosuke began walking away from the Dojo. The sounds of his feet piercing the harsh silence. "Wait." Sanosuke kept walking. "Wait." Kaoru looked up, her eyes filled with a clear shade of blue. No misty tears, no anger. Just resolve. She got up and ran infront of Sanosuke. Hands stretched out , halting him in mid-stride. "I'm going too. There is no way I'm letting you guys handle this alone.' "Kaoru-chan!" "Kaoru!" Everybody crowded around her. Tsubame silently shedding tears of joy, Tae beaming proudly. Megumi and Yahiko smilling sunrays. Kaoru was back. "That's the stubborn Jo-chan that we've come to love." Sanosuke patted her head playfully. "Well, shall we go then?" Kaoru thought for a while. Her sharp mind calculating everything it could recall. "Wait. I have a plan." She looked up at her friends, her expression fixed in determination. "They will probaly attack from the coast of the fishing village. Infact, I know they'll begin thier assault from there. From thier, they can work thier way in to central Tokyo and attack the goverment buildings. We have to confront them on the docks of that village." Yahiko scratched his head. "But it took us 2 weeks to get there." "Yeah, that was on foot though." Kaoru looked down the street. "If we can get Saitoh-san to lend us a stagecoach we can get there in roughly four days. Just in time for the assault." "Saitoh?" Sanosuke looked crestfallen. "I don't think a bastard like him will help us." "He has too. After all, he is a police officer." Megumi said with slight hesitation. Kaoru nodded. "If they don't attack from the dock of the South village. We can have Saitoh-san station his officers around Tokyo. But I highly doubt that they will begin there attack anywhere else. Now, we have to act fast. We have to leave today, or we won't make it in time. Me and Sanosuke will go to Saitoh's office while the rest of you shop for food." They all agreed and departed. 30 minutes later at the Police station.- "Assault? From the Kurokagei Ninjas." Saitoh watched the wisps of smoke curl from his cigaretted butt. Kaoru nodded. "Hai. They have Kenshin under control." Saitoh eyed the girl with weary eyes. "That may be a problem." Sanosuke was leaning up against the door way, not wanting to go with in a meter of the cocky police officer. Saitoh took notice of this and looked at him. "Oui, broom head!! I know we've had our problems but if you would kindly discard that stubborn attitude we may be able to work up a plan." Sanosuke glared, Kaoru sighed. "Sanosuke..." "Alright!" Sanosuke walked up to the desk, his eyes still narrowed. "Just this once Saitoh. We need your help and I'm gonna get it. This doesn't mean we're friends." Saitoh puffed his cigarette. "Of couse, Aho (moron)." "Nani!? (What!?)" Saitoh turned his attention back to Kaoru. His sunken cheeks sending shivers up her spine. "A stagecoach will get us there in a week." Sanosuke was just about to say something about the 'us' part when Kaoru interupted. "But we have to get there in four days!" Saitoh crushed his cigarette in an ashtray. "A stagecoach won't get us there in four days, but a newly imported American car can get us there in one." Kaoru blinked. "Car?" Saitoh smiled. "Yes a car. A type of machine that can travel a lot more faster than any stagecoach." " Mm.ma..ma..machine?!" Sanosuke stammered. Saitoh sighed. "I believe that was what I said, moron." "But! But! Things like that steal your souls! There is no way I'm.." "Sanosuke." He looked down in to Kaoru's pleading eyes. Sanosuke grimaced. For Kenshin.. "All right." Kaoru smiled. "How long will it take to prepare the 'car'?" Saitoh stood up, palms against the corners of his desk. "We can go as soon as I station my officers. Come back in two hours." Kaoru pushed out of her chair. "Thank you, Saitoh-san." Saitoh smirked. "No. Thank you." Sanosuke gave him a venomous glance before walking out the door behind Kaoru. Saitoh sat back down and leaned back in his chair. "Battousai." "A car? What the hell is that?" Back at the Dojo, everybody was assembled on the front yard. Busy packing things or practising, in the case of Yahiko and Kaoru. Yahiko looked up at his teacher in cunfusion. "Well?" Kaoru slashed at the air, her kendo uniform swaying in the warm summer breeze. "I don't know that much about the 'car', but if it takes us to Kenshin in time, it's good enough for me." Sanosuke cursed under his breath. Megumi giggled. "Oh come on Sanosuke, it can't be that bad!" Sanosuke stuffed a bunch of bentos in a duffle bag, nearing tearing the fabric. "I think 2 hours is up." He jumped up, swinging the duffle bad loudly on his shoulder. "Shall we go ride that monster machine?" Kaoru nodded. "Let's go. Tae eyed them with worried brown eyes. "Please for God's sake, be careful!" Yahiko lept to his feet and grinned. "Don't worry, we'll come back soon. With Kenshin." Yahiko was directing the words to a crying Tsubame. He put a hand on her shoulder, his smile growing softer. "I promise." She wiped her tears and smiled. "Hai." The group walked out the gates a second time. This time they were dead serious. It was up to them to save thier dear friend from the evil that was at hand. Kaoru was scared shitlesss, but there was no chance in hell that she was going to walk out on him. She needed him. Kaoru needed Kenshin. They walked in silence. Each thinking of what was to become. Once they turned the corner to the police station a big black machine with four big ugly ass wheels glinted in a harsh sun beam. (Imagine a gangster car that was run by Al Capone ^_^) Saitoh was leaning against it, puffing a cigaretted as always. Kaoru stepped up to the car, eyeing it with suspicious eyes before turning her attention to Saitoh. "Is this the 'car'?" He nodded. "Get in. Since I'm the only one trained to master this machine, I'm taking the wheel." They all got in, real hesitant. Sanosuke was the worst one, his eyes were actually popping thier sockets. Sanosuke stood there for a full minute, heaving big smoky breaths. Then he reached a long limb over and stepped in as soon as he could. Megumi, Sanosuke and Yahiko were sqaushed in the back seats. Kaoru sat up in front with Saitoh, studying the fine leather interior with curious eyes. Saitoh grinned. "Let's go." He pulled the shift and burned rubber. He peeled out and listened hapily to the sounds of pure terror. Satan was behind the wheel. Saitoh burned down the street. "OUI, SAITOH!! What the HELL are you doing??!!" Sanosuke was turning a nasty shade of green. The others watched with wide eyes as they reeked commotion down the streets of Tokyo. Saitoh opened the window with his free hand and breathed his smoke out in to the pulsing wind. He decided he liked cars. Wonderful speed. His grin grew to a wicked smirk. "I'm driving, aho." Sanosuke was going to retort when he felt a pint of vomit crawl up his throat. His face became the shade of a healthy booger. Megumi watched him, scared. "If you have to vomit, get out of the car!!" He wanted to say something but the pint had grown to a quart. Sanosuke's head blooted up to the size of a basket ball. For the rest of the trip he busied himself in trying to get his lunch back in to his stomach. Kaoru rolled down the window and felt a tingling sensation on her face as the wind whipped her hair back. To hell with being scared, this machine was wonderful. With the speed they were attaining they would be able to reach the town in a day. Everything was going well. Kenshin, we're coming. The car glinted flames as they drove in to the dying beams of light perishing behind faint blue mountains. Dusk set the sky on fire in a in a burst of pastel oranges and pinks. Yahiko forgot about being sick and stared out his window at the passing farms and towns, grinned as people watched them with huge pop-out eyes. He yawned and felt the low rumble of the engine lulling him to sleep. He closed his eyes. When he opened his eyes again he was surrounded by a familiar dock laiden with bright laterns that scorched under a stary night sky, his eyes went huge like saucers. They made it!! Beside him, Megumi was trying to soothe a very sick Sanosuke, coaxing him gently with one hand while his head threatened to pop open in a shower of goo. Saitoh was already out of the car and carrying some sort of wierd metal tin. Yahiko could smell the faint but strong smell of gasoline, quickly he scrambled out of the car and felt his knees buckle. He stretched for several minutes before turning to Kaoru. "Are we all staying at the same hotel?" Kaoru smiled. "Yes, this time you boys will get a seperate room." Sanosuke took one last monster gulp before turning to face Kaoru with a dreadfully pale face. "Share a room with that..that monster? I'd rather sleep on the dock!" Saitoh paid no heed to Sanosuke and continued watching the night sky while sucking on his lighted cigarette. Kaoru and Megumi began getting thier bags out of an open trunk while Yahiko and Sanosuke checked in. Saitoh ignored the busstle and looked over the ocean at the far out sillohuetted islands, his eyes narrowed slightly. Battousai... "Saitoh-san. It's nearly 3 a.m. You have to get some rest." "I'll go to sleep when I feel like it." he coldly replied. He heard the tapping of wood on cement as Kaoru vanished behind the door of the hotel. Once he was sure he was alone, he sat against a maple tree and looked at his sword. His mouth slowly turned in to a menacing smile. Finally, it was time. >From the end of the Bakufu to the begining of the Meiji years, his one wish was to take on Battousai and finish him for good. Shinsen Gumi versus Ishin shi shi, Mibu no Ookami versus the legendary Hitokiri Battousai. It was enough to make his blood boil. He leaned his head against the tree and chuckled out loud. "Prepare for battle, Battousai." Okey, I know a lot of you will be wondering if the 'car bit' is right. Well, in Meiji timez the industrail revolution was on the go. Locomotives were made, and then steam engines. The progression of cars started shortly after the steam engine was made. And I did recall a train in a Rurouni Kenshin episode. Well if I didn't get my factz straight...just think of the whole thing as humor!^_^ But I just studied the industrial rev....so I think thatz right. -Mihoshi "Cognito erguem.
