This is my own private obsession! +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ More Than Words: A Rurouni Kenshin Vid/Songfic of Extreme Proportions by Miss_Led (Saying I love you) Scene opens with Kaoru leaning on her bokken, lovingly staring at Kenshin, flanked by Ayame and Tsuzume, who is doing the laundry. (Is not the words I want to hear from you) Kenshin looks up to find Kaoru staring at him and smiles brightly. (It's not that I want you) Kaoru flushes at being caught and abruptly turns away. (Not to say, but if you only knew...) Behind her, the smile on Kenshin's face fades as he regards Kaoru's slumped shoulders. Heaving a resigned sigh, he returns to the task of washing the laundry. (How easy it would be to show me how you feel.) Kaoru walks away, tears forming in her eyes, as she contemplates the distance between herself and Kenshin. (More than words is all you have to do to make it real,) We see a split screen with Kaoru walking to the dojo on the left and Kenshin hanging clothes on the right, both sides turn towards the center as the pictures fade into one scene where Kenshin holds Kaoru's hand as rain falls around them. (Then you wouldn't have to say that you love me.) Both look into each other's eyes, Kenshin smiling softly as a light blush stains Kaoru's cheeks. (Cos I'd all ready know...) Scene switches back to the split screen in the present time where both individuals pause to sigh before continuing. The camera pans the yard and the scene melds into Kyoto. We find ourselves in Aoshi's favorite shrine high above the city. He and Misao face off in a chamber overlooking it, the tension between them is palatable. (What would you do if my heart was torn in two?) Aoshi breaks eye contact first, seeming to draw into himself. (More than words to show you feel) He turns from her, the action meant to shut Misao out, and takes a step towards the temple's veranda. (That your love for me is real.) We see Aoshi from the front; his face is contorted with pain, the cold facade no longer present. (What would you say if I took those words away?) Behind him, Misao's head is bowed, sliver streams run down her cheeks. (Then you couldn't make things new) She turns, running towards the door but her knees give way and she falls to the floor sobbing. (Just by saying I love you) Aoshi's head falls as well and a single tear forages a path to his jaw. (More than words...) The scene pulls away from the temple, turning to meld back into Tokyo again, only this time we find ourselves in Dr. Genzai's clinic. Here we see a tired Megumi sitting on a cushion sipping from a cup of tea. In the doorway stands Sano. His back is to her and his body is slouched from weariness. (Now that I've tried to talk to you and make you understand,) Sano sighs, stepping away from the doorframe. He turns to walk towards Megumi and kneels down next to her. (All you have to do is close your eyes,) Sano leans in close as Megumi looks away from him. (And just reach out your hand and touch me,) Megumi rises to her feet, intent on fleeing from the room. Sano catches her wrist and pulls her back towards him. (Hold me close, don't ever let me go!) Sano stands, pulling a struggling Megumi into his arms. He rests his head against hers calmly as her struggles dissolve into bitter tears. (More than words is all I ever needed you to show,) Sano strokes Megumi's hair gently as the tears subside. Megumi lifts her face to be engulfed by the warmth is Sano's eyes. (Than you wouldn't have to say that you love me,) She sniffles and reaches up to tug on a stray lock of his hair as a beautiful smile forms on her face. (Cos I'd already know...) Sano smiles in return and tightens his hold on the Doctor in a possessive hug. The warm scene dissolves into the Kyoto temple once again where a bleak silence, broken only by Misao's sobs, hangs in the air. Misao's body shakes in a broken motion in time with her sobs while Aoshi forces himself to ignore her as the desire to comfort her attacks him from within. (What would you do if my heart was torn in two?) A final sob escapes Misao before she rises from the floor, struggling to retain the last of her dignity. (More than words to show you feel,) She squares her shoulders and turns to leave even though her heart will be left behind in tatters. (That your love for me is real.) She is stopped at the last moment be a quiet whisper behind her. Aoshi turns, his eyes full of regret, and strides towards Misao. Kneeling before her with his head hung low, he bows to the floor. Misao gets to her knees as well and takes Aoshi into her arms, easing the pain of wasted time as the dampness of 10 years of sorrow soaks her clothes. (What would you say if I took those words away?) Kenshin finishes the laundry and walks towards the dojo. (Then you couldn't make things new) Inside, Kaoru is lost in thought, Kenshin is lost too as he stares at the striking beauty of Kaoru. (Just by saying I love you.) Kaoru notices Kenshin at last, but her body refuses to budge under Kenshin's molten regard. He walks towards her and tilts her head up to receive his lips for the first time. (More than words...) In the clinic Megumi and Sano finally part from a long awaited kiss to look out at the sunset. Owari!!!! ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^ Author's Notes: First off, I love this song, it's been a favorite of mine since I first heard it. The only couple that did not have complete closure was Aoshi and Misao. I think that these two have a hell of a lot of issues to work through and it would take the entirety of Handle’s Messiah to get to the end of it all. Aoshi's emotional break was just the tip of the iceberg (pun intended). The idea for this little scene was an argument between Aoshi and Misao about how he 'hides' in the temple, she inadvertently admits her feelings and Aoshi reprimands her for them, harshly. Basically he tells her she shouldn't talk of something she knows nothing about. Like he does know, ne? As for Kenshin's sudden urge to kiss Kaoru, I think we'll just call that lust, but the feelings behind it are infinitely deeper (notably Love). I think he was overtaken by her beauty and weary of denying how he felt, especially because he knows how Kaoru feels about him. She can't really hide it. I just think he's just really good at pretending not to notice. Sano and Megumi's little scene was Sano giving into the truth of his feelings and confronting Megumi about them. We all know how they feel, and I think they know themselves, they're just afraid to admit it. So I had the rooster break first cause he's so impatient. I had the idea of them being up all night arguing over it and Sano finally making Megumi admit the truth. She'd be angry about his emotional bullying and that she has to face something she might have been trying to ignore. Sano, of course, refuses to be ignored. Anyways, I hope you liked my second songfic! I think it turned out very good! Well, at least better than I expected!
