Trap of EmotionsA poem dedicated to Soujiro Seta, from "Rurouni Kenshin"
As the endless night’s darkness was consumed by ravenous stormclouds,As the thundering and blinding lightning struck the old oak trees,
As the oak branches fell crackling to the rain-soaked ground,
You stood on the hill, the same thundering storm flooding your soul.
Flooding your soul with regret, confusion, and lies
As your tears of confusion dripped onto the sword you were holding,
Mixing in with fresh blood on the glimmering blade
Which was all absorbed into the flowing rainwater.
The ominous dark-grey clouds swirled high above you,
Blocking any possible light from the praying earth,
As your lost soul, yearning for a guiding light
Turned to the skies above, finding nothing but utter darkness.
Like a bird drowning in the ocean, you struggled to find an answer,
An answer that would end your suffering, that would clear a light
A light to drive away the fog of uncertainty
To clear a path of life that you could tread.
At that time, you didn’t care whether the path you chose
Would be right or wrong, smooth or rocky, whether it would lead you
Up beyond the dark clouds, or down deeper into the storm
You just wanted to find some way out, like a bird in your rainy cage…
A way to run away from yourself. A way to forget the thundering night,
A way to leave your crying soul behind, for it to be washed away
With the dull overflowing waters of the night storm.
You caged your soul like a wounded falcon, and had forgotten it,
Locking it away in the deepest corner of yourself
You walked into the rain, determined to follow your path…
But what did you know that the path you were led to
was a path of lies…
