Hope you like my scenario. Peregrine. ==================================================================== Shishio looked around the sparsely furnished hut. He could feel the fire within him flare up as he thought of the hunt which had led him and Soujiro to the top of the moutain, only to lose sight of their prey as the blizzard whirled into being. As his eyes darted round the room in distaste, the edges of his bandages darkened, their heat-resistant qualities starting to lose the battle with Shishio's growing anger. He growled softly to himself. Not only would they have to start the hunt again, but they were also stuck in the middle of nowhere, lost, and cut off from contact with the rest of his men. He shot a quick glance at Soujiro and noted the strain around his lips. As usual, Soujiro was smiling, though there was a barely noticeable quiver at the corners, giving away the shivers which were taking over his body. Not good. They'd been wandering for several hours before finding this hut, and Soujiro was only wearing a light robe. Now, sheltered from the outside, the snow was beginning to melt, the cold water dripping from his hair and clothes, adding to the growing puddle around his feet. Eyes widening, Shishio caught sight of a promising looking bundle untidily stuffed in one dark corner. "Ah" he muttered in satisfaction as he pulled it out. It was an extremely dusty and dirty looking blanket. He turned round and held it up for his companion to see. Soujiro stared at it doubtfully. Shishio shook it slightly, trying to get rid of the dust. Suddenly, as if it had just been reminded of the laws of combustion, the blanket burst into flame. Almost instantaneously, the fire travelled the length of the blanket, from the corner clenched in Shishio's fist to the opposite tip. Shishio and Soujiro stood and glared with bewildered fascination as the blanket was quickly consumed. Soon, nothing was left but a few drifting ashes and flickers of orange to testify its previous existence. "Oops?" Soujiro smiled at Shishio as he walked towards him, trying to soak up some of the heat left over from the recent fire. "Too much dust." Shishio murmured in reply. Then he fixed his heated gaze measuringly on Soujiro once more. Eyes alight with expectation, he gestured to him. "Well, since the blanket's gone, I guess there's only one option left. Take off your wet clothes, then come here and help me get these bandages off." ----------------------------------------------------------------- SEVERAL HOURS LATER ----------------------------------------------------------------- The blizzard which had continued for most of the night died down. It was still snowing lightly outside, and the temperature stayed well below freezing. All within the hut was quiet. Shishio sat naked in the middle of the room. The heat from his inner fire providing full protection from the ravages of the cold. The bundle composed of Soujiro's wet clothes lay in front of him, now almost dry from the proximity to his body. Their owner lay close beside him, eyes closed in blissful repose, with a gentle smile on his lips. Shishio gazed down at him for a while before resting his head in one hand, eyes closed in deep thought. He revelled in the comfort he experienced when free of the restriction of the bandages. "Shishio-sama?" A female voice rose in query from outside the hut. There was a little pause as she located the handle under the pile of snow which had collected in front of the door. Then the door opened wide, and Yumi entered warily. As her eyes grew accustomed to the dim light within the room, they opened wide in disbelief. Conflicting emotions warred for supremacy in their lovely depths as she gazed upon the two still figures of her lover and her friend. Her hands quivered as she struggled for internal control. "It really does the job quite well." said a quiet, muffled voice, still thick with the overtones of sleep. There was a short moment of absolute silence. Then ringing laughter echoed about the small room. Yumi fell onto her knees, clutching her stomach, finally succumbing to hysteria as she watched Soujiro struggle to get up from his reclining position. He was half blind with bandages covering half his face. His actions were severly hampered by the bandages which had come loose sometime during his night's rest. These had got tangled with those wrapped round his arms and legs allowing for limited movement. He looked like nothing more than a demented mummy unexpectedly gifted with new life. Finally succeeding in wriggling to a more or less upright position, he smiled sweetly at Shishio and the gasping Yumi. With an enquiring glance at his master, he asked. "Shall we resume the hunt now?" ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
