Rico" Finally, I finished part four. Once again it came to me in a boring geology lecture. The lesson here? Geology is boring as anything but good for writing. But you might dissagree with me one you read the fic ^-^. As always, Kenshin is not mine. ******** Family Pt. 4 by P.Rico There was a tenses silence as Shinomori Ai caught her breath. Then is started. An attack so brutal, so merciless, even the strongest, coldest warrior fell to it. Aoshi's mother put him on a guilt trip. "How could you do this to me?" she sobbed. "After a carried you for nine months. Gave you life. All I've ever wanted was to see my only son get married and see some grandchildren while I'm still young enough to enjoy them. Is that too much to ask? Is that to much to give your aging mother? Do you realize how old I am?" "You always told me it was none of my business." "You always told *me* it was none of my business," muttered Rei. "Well, I'm not as young as I used to be. I may not have much time left. And you break my heart." "Did you have to go and break your mother's heart, Son?" Aoshi sighed. It had always been this way. His parents weren't really what could be considered the demanding type. He had been born with a natural sense of responsibility and self-motivation so his parents though that it would be best to just let him live his own life and be there for guidence. But there were always those few times when they wanted him to do something and they wanted him to do it without question. It wouldn't have been so bad, except it usually requires a MAJOR change in his life. Like the time that they won the Kyoto Clearing House Sweepstakes. He was 10 then and was determined to become a full fledge Oniwabanshuu. He was very close. Still, his parents wanted to see the world and wanted him to come with them. He almost gave in, but Okina and the Okashira came to his rescue and assured his parents that he would be well taken care of. Although, Aoshi suspected the Okashira and threatened them but he had no evidence so... He heard Ai sobbing and sighed. What was he going to do? This was his mother? "Okay," he said silently. Ai visibly brightened. "You're going to marry Sakura?" "I didn't say that." Ai let out a heart-wrenching maon. "But..." he hesitated. "I will give her a chance. But I'm not making any commitments," he added quickly. Ai ran up to him and kissed him. "Of course son. You're a grown man and can make your own choices." "Of course," muttered Aoshi. "But I'm sure you two kids will hit it off," remarked Rei. "Just do it before next Tuesday," added Ai. Aoshi's shoulder visible slumped. "Don't slouch, Dear." ------ Ai had planned an entire day for Aoshi and Sakura. Their day officially started with a light breakfast at the Aoiya. Then Ai sent the two off so Aoshi could show Sakura around Kyoto. "He's not doing this. This isn't real," moaned Misao. "Misao you shouldn't worry." It was during down time. Most everybody was seated in the dinning area. "But Omasu," she wined. "He's out there, with *her*. What if he falls in love?" "Don't be silly, Misao," said Okon. "She's not his type." "What is his type?" asked Sano. There was a long moment of silence. Yahiko finally broke it. "I still think he has to be adopted. His parents are so different." "I don't think it's that inconcivable," said Megumi. "It's obvious. Aoshi's parents are people of extream emotions. So Aoshi became a person of little to no emotions because he felt he had to compensate for his parents or perhaps as a means of rebellion." "What are you? A freaking head doctor now?" muttered Sano. "Well, we'd better get back to work," said Kuro. "People will be coming in soon." "Yahiko and I will help," offered Karou. Soon everyone left, leaving only Sano and Megumi. "Sano," said Megumi. "Nani?" "Let's talk about your mother." "Nani!?" ------ The day was over and they were finally heading back to the Aoiya. Aoshi thought he would just show her around the city and that would be it. Sakura had surprized him by pulling out an itinery package his mother had given to him earlier. As the day day went on, Aoshi noticed that Sakura doted on him more and more. Not unlike Misao, actually. Only infinitely more annoying. Sakura hung on him and refused to let him go. At least Misao had some self-control. "Besides," he thought. "Misao is..." "Aoshi!" "What?" "Look at this." She was looking at a wedding dress on display in a garment shop. "Isn't it beautiful?" "......" Sakura smiled. "You're so quiet. Yasuo used to get like that sometimes." "Who?" Sakura frowned slightly. "Yasuo was my fiance before you." She smiled again. "But you don't have to worry. I belong to you now." "Joy," muttered Aoshi. But she had given him some valuable information. Perhaps he could get out of this after all. ------ Misao knocked on the door to Aoshi's room. "Come in," he heard him say. She slid the door open and slipped inside, her head lowered. "Hi, Aoshi-sama." "Hello, Misao." "So." "So?" "How was your day?" she asked, afraid of the answer. "Awful." Misao smiled. "Really?" Aoshi nodded. "I certain now more than ever that I am not marrying that woman." Misao frowned again. "So what are you going to do." "She gave me some valuable information today. I just need to look into it." "Are you going to blackmail her?" Aoshi almost smiled. Almost. "No," he replied. "But I'll have to keep that in mind." "If you need any help, just ask." "I'll be sure to do that. Now it's late. You should go to bed." "Hai, Aoshi-sama." She bounce out of the room. Aoshi felt himself begin to smile. "That girl..." ------ The next day, Misao went looking for Aoshi and was rather distraught when she didn't find him. She went into the kitchen and found Okon, Shiro, Okina, and Kenshin. "Jiya, have you seen Aoshi-sama?" "He's not in the temple?" "Nope. I've checked his room to." "May be he took off again," suggested Shiro. "Don't even joke about that," exclaimed Misao. "Aoshi-san," she suddenly heard Okon say. They all turned to the door. Aoshi was standing just inside. "Aoshi," said Kenshin. "We were begining to thing you had left." "Yeah," said Shiro. "Why didn't you?" "Nani?" "I mean," he said quickly. "If I were in you position, I would have taken off the first chance I got." There were murmmers as the others agreed. "That thought definitly crossed my mind," Aoshi admitted. "But I think I have a better solution." He stepped aside to allow a short, slender, but handsome, young man into the room. "This is Yasuo. Sakura's ex-fiancee." "Yo, minna," said Yasuo plesently. "Hello, Yasuo. I'm Misao." "Hey, Misao. But call me Joe. All my friends do." "Joe?" "It's Anglo. Cool, ne?" "Nani?" "Don't ask," muttered Aoshi. "So you were engaged to Sakura-dono," said Kenshin. "That's right," said Yasuo/Joe. "But when A's parents made that deal with her parents, we were forced to break up. We were forbidden to see eachother. They issued a restraining order against me." He wiped away the tears that were flowing down his face. "But I never stopped loving my dear Sakura. When I heard she was in Kyoto, I came, too." "How did you find him, Aoshi-sama?" "It wasn't very difficult. I was going to see one of our contacts when he jumped out of a window and almost landed on me." "I was so distraught over losing Sakura that I tried to kill myself." "It was a one story building." "See how distraught I was? Anyway, A here questioned me and found out who I was." "How did you know to question him?" asked Okina. "I asked him if he was alright and he told me everything." "Oh." "Hello, hello!" Misao ran to the door and peeked out. "It's your parents; *she's* with them." "My dear Sakura," said Joe with stars in his eyes. "Might as well get this over with," said Okina. Aoshi nodded. He took a deep breath and went out to greet his parents. Rei and Ai both smiled when they saw Aoshi. Sakura almost tripped over herself running to him "Hello, Aoshi Dear," she said. "Goodmorning, Mother, Father," said Aoshi politely. He turned to Sakura. "Sakura-san, I'm glad you are here." "Really?" she said, her smile widening. "Yes, there is someone I'd like you to meet. But I believe you may already know him." Joe ran out of the kitchen. "Sakura!" "Joe?" cried Sakura, her eyes wide with suprize. "Is that really you?" "Yes, my dearest. It is I." "My parents said you were dead." "My parents told me the same thing when I was 10 but they were all wrong." ------ "Is this guy for real?" asked Misao from her position behind the door. "Shh! I can't here what they are saying," said Okina. ------ Sakura ran into Joe's open arms. "Oh, Joe. Let's elope." "Yes, and let's run away and get married, too." Sakura turned to Aoshi. "Aoshi," she said gently. "I'm so sorry. But I love Joe. I know your heart is broken, but time heals all wounds and one day, you may learn to love again." "......" The happy couple then ran out of the Aoiya and out of everybody's lives forever. "Well," said Ai. "That was a dissapointment." "You don't mind, Mother?" "If it can't be helped, it can't be helped." "Well, Son." said Rei. "It looks like you won't be tying the knot just yet." "But that turns out good for us. Now we can make that cruise." "Cruise?" "You mother and I are going to take a cruise around the world." "But we'll have to leave right away." "That's too bad," said Okina, coming out of the kitchen, followed by Misao and Kenshin. "Take good care of our boy, Okina," said Rei. "Of course." "Goodby, dear," said Ai, giving Aoshi a kiss. "Good bye, Mother, Father." When they left, Aoshi heaved a sigh of relief. "I'm going for a walk," he said. Then to Misao, "Care to join me?" "Wha--you mean...Yeah!" Okina watched the two walk away and smiled. "They make such a cute couple." ------ The walk eventually lead to the path to the temple. They had been silent ever since they left the Aoiya and Misao was about to burst. "So," she began. "You really are happy that your parent are gone." "Don't get me wrong Misao," said Aoshi. "I love my parents, I just can't stand them." "When do you think they'll be back?" "It's hard to tell with those two." Misao suddenly frowned. "What if they bring back another fiancee for you?" Aoshi stopped and turned to her. They stood in silence. Misao involentarily gasped when Aoshi brought his had up to her face. "I suppose I'll just have to get one of my own before then." ******** The End. Well, there you go. A happy ending. Sakura and Joe are happy, Aoshi parents are somewhat dissapointed but otherwize happy, and best of all, Aoshi and Misao are on their way down the path of romance. Wish those two cazy kids luck ^_~. _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
