Author's Notes: This songfic is the result of listening to a CD of Elvis
love songs and, for some psychotic reason, picturing Aoshi singing
most of them. (I can barely get through a song without busting up!)
Other factors include being up at 4:00 a.m. trying to distract myself
from a Calculus take-home test (by letting you take it home, the
teacher can make it longer and more difficult <sigh>)

Music starts.
Aoshi sits impassively meditating in the temple. His thoughts turn
to what has become his most confusing puzzle... Misao.
When no-one else can understand me
When everything I do is wrong
He thinks of all of he things he did in his quest to obtain the title of
'the Strongest' and how much he hurt her.
You give me hope and consolation
You give me strength to carry on
Then, he pictures her running towards him as he returns to the Aoiya
with joy and hope in her eyes.
And you're always there to lend a hand
In everything I do
His eyes become slightly softer as he recalls her running through the
rain to bring him an umbrella at the temple.

'Why does she do these things?' he thinks to himself. 'She should
hate me, but...'
And when you smile the world is brighter
Aoshi remembers all of the times Misao has smiled for him, and the
warmth he feels each time.
You touch my hand and I'm a king
He recalls 'accidentally' brushing her hand with his as they passed
on the stairs at the Aoiya and the wealth of feelings it raised for him.
Your kiss to me is worth a fortune
Your love for me is everything
Tentatively, he allowes himself to imagine stroking her hair, her
face, leaning towards her waiting lips...
I'll guess I'll never know the reason why

Stopping that train of thought and dismissing it as a simple fantasy,
Aoshi rises and goes to leave the temple.

Sliding open the door to leave, he comes face to face with Misao
poised to knock.

Her face lights up and she begins talking. Aoshi lets her voice wash
over him as they walk away from the temple together.
